The March Quarter Gilkatho Cappuccino Price Index™ has shown a steady rise in Australian consumer coffee prices, with the latest report showing Sydney as still having the lowest price takeaway coffee, while Melbourne still offers the best price for dine‐in coffee drinkers. Read more



Cappuccino Price Index™ covers more of Australia

Gilkatho’s December Quarter Cappuccino Price Index™ has been expanded to cover more of Australia with the latest report showing Sydney having the lowest price takeaway coffee, with Melbourne offering the best price for dine-in coffee drinkers. 

Gilkatho managing director Wayne Fowler said the December quarter results largely reflected the maturity of the ‘coffee culture’ existing in these capital cities.

 “Right now Sydney and Melbourne have a more sophisticated and larger consumer market. That being said, the other capital cities are catching up and it will be interesting to monitor pricing trends as the year progresses.” Read more

2010:Price of caffeine hit highest in Brisbane

Some coffee lovers are paying dearly for their daily caffeine hit – Brisbane has been named
home to the most expensive cappuccino for the second year running in a survey of coffee prices in three capital cities.

Sydney’s high cost of living did not translate in high coffee prices, with the city boasting the
cheapest average cappuccino price ($3.06) compared to Brisbane and Melbourne.

Melbourne claimed the highest maximum price for a cappuccino at $5 a cup, but its average
price for a cup of coffee of $3.22 was still cheaper than Brisbane. Read more.

Espresso shots are being fired daily in the streets of Brisbane as baristas compete for the caffeine-conscious consumer. In the face of rising costs, cappuccino prices have marginally increased by 5c in the past year.

It’s a caffeine bath on the battlefield when more than 30% of coffee outlets disappear or rebrand each year. The strong survive and the new entrants compete just to stay open. Read more

The price of takeaway coffee in Brisbane is on the rise. According to Brisbane’s own “CPI”: takeaway coffee has an average price this year of $2.67 with the cheapest coffee being in the CBD. Read more

Brisbane Gilkatho Cappuccino Price Index for takeaway cappuccino prices has increased over the past year.

The average price of a cappuccino in Brisbane rose slightly over the past 12 months, increasing by 7% to $2.54. In the same period the Australian Bureau of Statistics CPI increased by 3%. Read more.

At an average takeaway price of $2.37 buying coffee ‘out’ is still 10 times more expensive than using an automatic coffee machine to produce the same quality beverage in an office or home. The demand for automatic coffee machines can be expected to continue due to the cost savings and convenience of the new generation coffee machines. Read more
