Best Brewing Method for 1 Liter of Coffee

When brewing 1 liter of coffee, you will need a coffee maker that can brew a large batch of coffee in one brewing cycle. If you use a single-cup pour-over brewer, you will be forced to repeat the brewing process severally. For the best results, we recommend using a French press to make 1 liter of coffee. Also, you can use the cold brew method to make 1 liter of cold brew coffee.

Best Grind Size

If you are using a French press to make coffee, we recommend a medium-coarse or coarse grind size. The French press uses a metal filter. Thus, grinding too finely will cause the grinds to move through the mesh and make your brew silty, harsh, and bitter.

It is important to make sure that the grounds are even. If you use an uneven grind to brew coffee, the larger bits will under-extract while the smaller bits may over-extract.

Preferably, brew with freshly ground beans. Avoid using pre-ground coffee as it may have lost some flavor. You can buy whole coffee beans and grind enough beans for a single brewing cycle. However, if you do not have a coffee grinder, buy freshly ground beans from a local coffee shop.

Coffee to Water Ratio for 1 liter of Coffee

The ideal coffee-to-water ratio when using a French press is 1:16. Thus, if you want to make 1 liter (34 fl. oz.) of coffee, you will require about 2.1 oz (60 grams) of coffee. Precision is important when brewing. Thus, you can weigh your coffee with a kitchen measuring scale. However, if you do not have a scale, you can measure your coffee with a tablespoon. In this case, use about 8 tablespoons of coffee to make 1 liter of coffee in a French press.

Step 3– Boil 1 liter (34 fl. oz.) of water. Set the water away from the heat for about 30 seconds to attain the optimum brewing temperature. Add water into the brewing chamber.

Step 4– Allow the mixture to sit undisturbed for about 3 to 4 minutes.

Step 5– Stir the crust of coffee on the top.

Step 6– Allow the coffee to sit again for about 4 to 6 minutes. Much of the coffee bits will sink to the bottom of the carafe.
