2 and 4 coffee filter size

Coffee Filters

Coffee filters come in two different colours, the white and natural paper. There are different thicknesses and textures to it. Below are the sizes of coffee filters;

  • Size one (#1): The filter is made for all and anyone in cup coffee machines.
  • Size 100 filter is made for Melitta 100 porcelain filter & Aromaboy.
  • Size two (#2) : The filter is also called one by two. It’s made for two to six-cup coffee machines and one to two-cup pour-over devices.
  • Size 102 : The filter which is outdated.
  • The size three (#3) filter is made for a Hario V60 size three.
  • The size four (#4) filter is also known as a one-by-four. This filter is made for eight to twelve-cup coffee machines and pour-overs.
  • Size six (#6) filters are made for ten cups and above coffee machines and pour-overs.
  • One pint size filter was made as a basket filter for one to four cup machines.
  • Two-pint size filter is also made as a basket filter for eight to twelve-cup machines.

Difference Between a Size Two and Four Coffee Filter.

The difference between these two sizes is based on the sizes and what kind of coffee makers they fit. The size two is made to fit a two-to-the-six-cup coffee maker or a one-to-two-cup pour-over. The size four, on the other hand, was created to benefit an eight to twelve-cup coffee maker.

Assuming you’ve got a size four coffee filter and wonder if it’ll fit into a size two coffee machine, it can still work. All you have to do is trim off the extra useless amount. Place the size four coffee filter into the coffee maker and mark out how much more of it is in excess. Then using scissors, trim off the excess and check to see if the lid closes.

As for vice versa, you might be able to get away with using a smaller filter like a size two in a size four filter coffee maker. You’ll need to be very cautious, though. Carefully add the coffee grounds to make it sit well without spilling over and pour the water gently to avoid a mess. However, the downside is that you might not get the exact water coverage over the coffee grounds as in a larger filter. This is usually because of the divide of the smaller filter. Nevertheless, testing it out might work.

While it’s true that some coffee filters are thicker than others, this isn’t a difference for sizes two and four if they’re of the same brand. Both filters are made the same way, the only difference being the height and diameter. A size two coffee filter has a dimension of 9.4 centimetres in height and 10.2 centimetres in breadth. In contrast, a size four coffee filter has a dimension of 12.8 centimetres in height and 12.1 centimetres in width.

While the paper qualities are the same and both filters make the same coffee, any difference in coffee taste is probably due to the amount of coffee grounds infused adequately in the water.

Standard Coffee Filter Size

If you have a coffee maker but are clueless about what coffee filter size to get, here’s a decent way to go about it. Most coffee makers usually use either a size two or four coffee filter. A drip coffee machine standardly uses a size two, but if that feels wrong, it’s most likely a size four.

Making decisions on what coffee filter to use for a coffee maker could be exhausting. Regarding the size two (#2) and four (#4) coffee filter sizes, so far, they’re of the same brand and type, such as a cone coffee filter; you can get the suitable kind for your coffee maker.
