Freshly ground coffee beans are one of the secrets to brewing a perfect cup of coffee with rich flavors every morning. You don’t have to worry about your coffee grounds oxidizing since you only grind just enough grounds for your day. But what happens if you don’t have a grinder, but you have a Nutribullet in your kitchen? Can you grind your coffee beans in a Nutribullet? Let’s find out.

grind coffee beans in Nutribullet

The short answer is yes. You can grind your coffee beans in a Nutribullet. However, you’ll need to have the right blade to do it correctly. The type of blade to use depends on your machine. Most Nutribullets will have typical extractor blades. You should remove these blades and replace them using milling blades. Milling blades prevent your coffee beans from getting stuck since the blades are thinner and only have two prongs and not four. Beyond replacing the blades, you are required to grind your coffee beans the same way you would grind anything else in a Nutribullet. Let’s discuss more on grinding coffee beans in a Nutribullet. Read on!

What’s a Nutribullet?

A Nutribullet is a single-serve blender that’s usually used for smoothies, sauces, dips, cocktails, and salad dressings. A Nutribullet is about 14 inches tall and weighs around seven pounds. The original Nutribullet model comes with a 600-watt motor, one extractor blade, one tall cup, a milling blade, and a power base. You can use the milling blade to grind dry ingredients such as roasted coffee beans.

Can You Grind Coffee Beans in a Nutribullet?

Yes. You can grind coffee beans in a Nutribullet. Unlike normal blenders that have weak motors, A Nutribullet comes with a powerful motor that can grind coffee beans. However, you’ll find different Nutribullet models on the market and not all of them are good for grinding coffee beans. Some of the best models for grinding coffee beans include:

  • Nutribullet 600
  • Nutribullet Pro 900
  • Nutribullet Pro Plus 1200

The Nutribullet 600 contains a 600-watt motor, while the Nutribullet Pro 900 contains a 900-watt motor. On the other hand, the Nutribullet Pro Plus 1200 contains a 1200-watt motor. The watts in these models are enough to grind your coffee beans into the consistency that you need. However, the milling blades for these models are sold separately and you’ll need them to grind your coffee beans.

Usually, most Nutribullets come with an extractor blade that has four prongs. However, you cannot use this blade to grind your coffee beans since it is thicker and your beans will get stuck between the blades which could potentially burn up your motor. You’ll need to replace the extractor blade using a milling blade. Here are some benefits of a milling blade:

  • A miller blade is thinner compared to an extractor blade and therefore, your coffee beans won’t get stuck
  • A miller blade has two sharp prongs and a flat design that’s ideal for grinding tough ingredients such as coffee beans, seeds, nuts, and grains.

The miller blade is, however, only compatible with a Nutribullet.

Difference Between a Nutribullet and a Coffee Grinder

Blenders and grinders are essential household appliances. A Nutribullet pulverizes all food types much more compared to normal blenders. On the other hand, coffee grinders are used to grind coffee beans into a powder consistency. Here are some key differences between a Nutribullet and a coffee grinder:

  • A Nutribullet is designed to mix ingredients together, while a grinder is designed to grind tough and dry ingredients such as nuts and coffee beans
  • Blenders have a large jar or pitcher for holding liquids, while a coffee grinder has a smaller pitcher
  • A Nutribullet has flat burrs that heat up fast and produce more noise, while coffee grinders come with conical burrs which are cooler and quieter
  • A Nutribullet has limited settings, while coffee grinders have multiple settings

Possible Types of Grinds with a Nutribullet

There are four types of coffee grinds that you can achieve with a Nutribullet. They include:

  • Coarse grind
  • Medium grind
  • Fine grind
  • Extra-fine grind
  1. Coarse Grind

Coarse ground coffee has a similar texture to that of sea salt. Coarse coffee grinds are used in a French press brewer or a percolator. To achieve a coarse coffee grind in a Nuribullet, fill the pitcher with 3/4 full roasted coffee beans to leave enough space for the milling blades to grind the coffee beans. Then give the Nutribullet three pulses.

  1. Medium Grind

A medium grind is finer compared to a coarse grind but has some individual particles. A medium grind has a similar texture to that of regular beach sand. This type of grind is ideal for use in Siphon brewers and flat-bottomed drip coffee brewers. To achieve a medium grind in a Nutribullet, simply fill the pitcher with 3/4 roasted coffee beans and pulse it five times.

  1. Fine Grind

This type of grind is ideal for making espresso. To achieve this grind, fill the pitcher with 3/4 full roasted coffee beans and run the Nutribullet for about one to two minutes in 10-seconds intervals. In between the intervals, detach the pitcher and shake the coffee grounds to move the big particles towards the miller blade. Doing this ensures that the coffee grounds have a similar consistency.

  1. Extra-Fine Grind

The extra fine grind is ideal for Turkish coffee that’s made using an ibrik or a cezve. The texture of this grind is similar to that of powdered sugar or flour. To achieve this consistency, you’ll need to pulse your Nutribullet for about two to five minutes. Ensure that you shake the pitcher in between intervals to move the bigger particles towards the milling blade.
